About me

Miguel A. Cortés
I started my career in ELT just after I finished my university degree in 2004. I studied English Language & Literature at the Universitat de València and I spent one year living in the UK. Back in Valencia I worked for several language schools teaching unemployed people and teenagers as welol as doing some in-company lessons. Then in 2006 I started working for the Centre d'idiomes de la Universitat de València first as an English teacher and now as a Coordinator for Foreign Languages.

In 2009 I felt the need to give my personal viewpoint about what was happening in Spain, and Valencia in particular, at that time. And that's why I wrote about "sexy" priests, illegal taxis, "dangerous" computers and censored photographs. I must admit that in one year I only posted five articles, not a lot that's true, and I probably got bored with it; I sometimes didn't know what to write about.

3 years and a two-month-old son after my last article, I decided to change drastically the purpose of this blog. I wanted to share with friends, students, fellow teachers and everyone interested in English language learning my experiences, my ideas and the resources I've created during all these years, and discuss the new trends in English language teaching that could turn us into better professionals. However, I wouldn't delete my previous articles, they are part of me and I feel really proud of what I wrote because it was my first approach to the digital world and my personal footprint on the World Wide Web.

Some of my personal interests include cycling to work, it's free, no problems with parking, and much faster than someone might think. I love basketball, I used to be part of an amateur team, though now I mainly enjoy it on TV. I'm an enthusiast about Gin&Tonics, especially the whole process of preparing different combinations; and I'm an avid reader, whenever a good book falls in my hands.

To conclude, I want to thank in advance everyone who joins me in this new adventure and I encourage you to participate, any comments will be welcome.

My motto: "With every decision you make there's always a risk implied. Choose wisely."
